Learning with a Native Speaker

| Annette Zitzer | Aktuelles

[Ga, class 7b] On the 21st of May, our class had a visit from a native speaker named Louis. He came from London and works for the organization EF in the project “Teacher on the Road.” With this project, he travels to different countries and teaches English. It was his first time in Germany, and he told us many interesting things about himself and his life.

At the beginning of the lesson, we played the game “Two Truths and One Lie.” One of the truths was that he had eaten a tarantula, which everyone thought was very funny and strange. He also told us that he had played hockey for his country. After that, we played different games in groups. Some games were about movies, TV shows, geography, famous people, animals, and random facts. In one activity, we had to write as many words as possible for a specific topic. At the end, we played a big quiz with different categories and difficulty levels. The higher the points were, the more difficult the questions became.

During the lesson, we also learned something about grammar, especially about adjectives, comparatives and superlatives. Many students said that it was very helpful to practice these topics again because they could remember the rules better afterwards.

The lesson was very exciting because Louis spoke clear English, and it was interesting to hear how a real native speaker talks. He was very friendly and funny, and he did not just stand in front of the classroom the whole time. Instead, he involved everyone in games and activities. We also had a small break in between, which made the lesson even more enjoyable.

Most students thought that the lesson was a very cool and interesting experience. We learned many new things, practiced speaking English, worked together in teams, and had a lot of fun. We would recommend this experience to other classes. Overall, the visit from the native speaker was a great opportunity to learn English in a fun and interactive way.
